Brown wondered, “How will development happen, and who will it meaningfully affect?” And from a long lifetime in the islands he saw an answer… “Involve the people of Hawaiʻi.” Friends of the Future is the result of that imperative…

Our Mission

We facilitate a vision of lokahi ~ harmony and balance ~ among the diverse people of Hawaiʻi and encourage each person to contribute their deepest values, to create shared vision, and to continuously improve our communities.
Enhancing Education

We directly manage programs and serve as fiscal sponsor for initiatives and programs that enhance education in the community and schools ~ during school and out-of-school hours ~ as well as beyond schools and school age-years.
Perpetuating Culture

Our work provides people with opportunities to engage in traditional practices, such as language, oral histories, oli, mele, dance, and more.
Building Community Capacity

We promote the development and implementation of our community’s own solutions to challenges.

Discover Your Kuleana
Our mission at Discover Your Kuleana is to deepen the connection of residents, new and long time, to Waimea. Through events, resources, cultural competence, and volunteer opportunities, we guide those seeking a meaningful relationship with our North Hawaiʻi community.
